Green Bird a children's Story by Mark Ansel

I was selected to review a children's book called Green Bird both written and illustrated by Mark Ansel. I received this book free in exchange for my honest review. All opinions and comments are my own.
The book is about a little green bird who lives with the pink squirrel family in the pink forest. He decides he is going to go out into the world and look for his "real"family, his search for other green birds is the heart of the story,as with any children's story, there is a lesson to learn.
I have been reading this story to my granddaughters, ages 3 and 1 1/2. The youngest one,of course, does not understand the story but she loves the bright pictures.  Every time the little bird comes upon something green he asks,"are you a bird" and the picture on that page is a silhouette of what the item is,you must turn the page to find out what he is talking too.  My granddaughters love guessing what will be on the next page based on the silhouette. My 3 year old granddaughter gets the story and she really enjoys it. I like the lessons that are to be learned in this story,I believe there are two good lessons in this book.
The first lesson to be learned in this story is that "family " does not always mean people who are related to you or look the same as you. Family are the people who love you regardless if you are the same as them or totally different. Green bird learns this early on in the book. Many families are a blend of different cultures and nationalities and this makes it easier for little ones to understand.
The second lesson this wonderful children's book teaches is ,never give up. As the little green bird is searching for others like him he begins to get frustrated and tired when he cannot find his 'family",he finds an item on the ground, that renews his resolve and he continues his journey. I will not spoil the end for you. Do yourself a favor and add this book to your small child's nighttime reading routine. I am happy I did. Right now this book is only available on Kindle and not in print.
